During 2001 we surveyed the literature for books describing developing a Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) modem. We knew the book by Young [1] which is a well written textbook with an emphasis on RF, from an engineer with many years industrial hands-on experience. Another good book, with an emphasis on digital signal processing, is by Frerking [2], who gives enough theoretical background to solve practical problems in modem design. Both books cover the technology and engineering aspects well for frequency and time division duplex systems, but not code division multiple access modems.
